Apartment Friendly Pets

From New York to San Francisco pet friendly apartments can be pretty expensive, making it more beneficial to find an apartment friendly pet than a pet friendly apartment. When people hear the word “pet”, dogs and/or cats are generally the first animals that come to mind. However, there are other options to consider.

THINK OUTSIDE THE LITTERBOX

Obviously, not every apartment friendly pet will be suitable or acceptable for everyone. For instance, a good idea for a small space pet is a reptile. Snakes like ball pythons and corn snakes are not only very docile and easy to handle, they are also relatively small and very low maintenance. The same could be said of many lizards, such as leopard geckos or bearded dragons. All that is truly required to keep most of these misunderstood creatures happy and healthy is a terrarium, a heat source, and food. Requiring only a quick weekly cage cleaning (or even a daily spot cleaning), reptiles are not only great conversation starters but are also a wonderful educational experience for children. A terrarium is an enclosure designed to replicate the natural environment of reptiles, thus giving you a beautiful furniture piece in addition to caging your pet.

MAMMAL LOVERS

Of course, there will be plenty of people that prefer pets of the warm blooded persuasion. If that’s the case, there are plenty of mammals to choose from while still taking a break from dogs and cats. For instance, rabbits and guinea pigs are both cuddly animals that if raised correctly can be both cuddly and docile, making them both great pets for a smaller home. Unfortunately, this will, of course, require a much higher level of maintenance as fur can and will get everywhere, which leads to a bit more cleaning and a bit more odor to put up with than reptiles.

These are only a few suggestions to consider. There are many other options no matter what city you happen to live in. No matter what your choice, remember that the happier your pet is the happier you will be, and the longer you will have the opportunity to truly enjoy your pet.
